Thanks for visiting the music page! For those who are new to Jeffreys Grove, WELCOME!! I am excited to get our year started off with lots of great music.
Kindergarten: We always start the year discovering our singing, whispering, chanting, and speaking voices. We will use various rhymes or songs to move our bodies and explore music.
First Grade: We will begin singing and using instruments to accompany poems and stories. We will also sing and use body movement to reflect pitches in songs and on our barred instruments such as the xylophone.
Second Grade: Performance of poems, stories, games, and music demonstrating specified elements of music such as dynamics, tempo, melody, form, rhythm starts our year in second grade. We will us instruments to accompany us as we learn about the different elements of music.
Third Grade: We will create whole-class and small-group compositions using specified pitches and rhythmic notation for voice and/or pitched instruments. We will use instruments and create songs to represent characters to support a story.
Fourth Grade: Fourth graders will begin studying the various composers’ music from the N. C. Symphony educational program. We will not hear them until the spring, but during each quarter we will learn about two different composers and their work. Each piece represents an element of music such as rhythm, dynamics, texture, tempo, form, and melody.
Fifth Grade: Get ready parents… It’s “Fifty Nifty” time. If you don’t know what that song is, you will soon!!! This one of several patriotic songs we will learn this year to integrate the social studies curriculum into our music studies. Before long they will be able to sing all 50 states, alphabetically for you!!
Hope your child will enjoy their musical experiences with me this year. Gay Barnes
